To be able to participate in a field trip for three nights and four days with my classmates was an exhilarating experience that I will cherish forever. Our adventure took us to the picturesque Yangshuo, China, where we engaged in a variety of exciting activities. From bike riding to rafting, rock climbing to caving, every moment was filled with joy and excitement. 

Exploring the beautiful landscapes of Yangshuo on two wheels, with the wind in my hair, was an absolute delight. The adrenaline rush from conquering the challenging rock walls during our rock climbing session left me with a sense of accomplishment and newfound confidence. Additionally, the grade nines had the opportunity to learn about the local culture through a cooking session, where we prepared traditional local dishes (and ate them ourselves for lunch). We joined the locals in their farms, getting our hands dirty as we learned about their agricultural practices. The highlight of our trip was the opportunity to dine in their houses, where we enjoyed delicious meals and witnessed the breathtaking beauty of the sunset, followed by a campfire and marshmallow toasting.

Venturing into the caves (and getting our legs soaked with muddy water in the process) was a completely new experience for me. The exploration of the caves during our field trip was an unforgettable experience that pushed us outside our comfort zones. While the challenge was undeniable, the exhilaration and thrill we felt made it all worthwhile. Having navigated through narrow passages, we crawled through tight spaces and waded through water.

The grand finale of our trip was a remarkable tour of West Street, showcasing a vibrant blend of culture and excitement. As we strolled down the bustling streets, our grade was treated to a delightful buffet, savouring flavours from around the world. Exploring the variety of shops in groups added to the sense of adventure—Walking through the crowds, students in my group marvelled at the vibrant displays of local handicrafts, clothing, and souvenirs. 

I am incredibly grateful for all the effort put into preparing this field trip, as well as all the teachers and staff for putting this together. This experience provided us with a glimpse into the local culture, leaving us with lasting memories of the vibrant and enchanting side of Yangshuo that we will always remember.
